A trip to the beach is not quite complete without at least one Pia Colada. This Caribbean drink mixes the savoury flavours of coconut, pineapple, fresh cream, and rum to create a beverage that is not only tasty but also quite refreshing. In 1954, a Puerto Rican named Ramon “Monchito” Marrero is credited with inventing the Pia Colada. The bartender’s goal was to concoct a beverage that captured the essence of the flavours found on his home island. He is credited with developing the Pina Colada, which went on to become so famous that in 1978 it was designated as Puerto Rico’s official national drink. Since the first Pia Colada was made in 1954, nearly 200 million individuals from all over the world have indulged in drinking it. It is hard for us to determine how many cups of this tea have been prepared in the past, but if you bring a pot of it to a boil, you will undoubtedly make a considerable contribution to that number! This tea, when prepared in the same manner as its namesake and served cold with whipped cream, tastes exactly the same.
