Many of us associate the term “heirloom” with precious objects such as vintage wardrobes, pocket watches, and diamond engagement rings passed down through generations. Others, especially those interested in tea, see “heirloom” as part of the phrase “heirloom recipe,” which has a far more culinary connotation to them. Now, therefore, why are we even debating family recipes? Frosty Plum Spice, the response, was developed as a tribute to a traditional family recipe passed down from his Dutch ancestors.
The story goes that an old woman (Oma) who had grown up on an orchard in the old country came up with the recipe for spiced plum tarts to use up the fruit that had been left over after market day in the surrounding hamlet.
As a cup of tea, how does the traditional recipe fare? The only way to find out is to try it, and our opinion. Lekker! It’s a Dutch word that means “delicious.” This combination of spices and herbs yields a brew that is equally at home served hot on a chilly winter day or iced on a steaming summer morning thanks to its long fruity notes and subtle warming spices. Make a pot today and toast the old ways and recipes. Proost!
