Irish tea drinkers will appreciate the robust flavour and thick consistency of a cup of Decaf Irish Breakfast. As is customary with Irish Breakfast tea, this one is loaded with caffeine. Decaf, on the other hand, may be drunk at any time of day without disrupting sleep. Ireland has one of the world’s highest rates of per capita tea consumption. The Irish like a robust cup of tea that, if steeped for long enough, would nearly allow the spoon to stand on end. This is hard to top whether you’re trying to avoid caffeine or searching for something delicious that won’t keep you awake.
There’s a long-standing debate about whether milk should be added to a cup of tea before or after the tea itself. Some who like to add milk first believe that doing so prevents the milk from being obviously scalded, and that this is why it should be heated gradually before being added to tea. A group of people who call themselves “milk-lasters” insist that you can only tell how much milk to add to your tea by observing the colour change after you’ve already poured it. To those who don’t drink milk, this is all quite comical.
