BLARNEY BLEND

Good morning, and top of the morning to you! Trying to come up with a clever remark? It’s recommended that you kiss the Blarney Stone. It is said that whoever kisses the renowned Blarney Stone on the castle’s battlements above Cork, Ireland, would be granted the “gift of gab.” Poet Francis Sylvester Mahony of the nineteenth century arguably best encapsulated the distinctive quality in his writings:

Tis there’s the stone that whoever kisses.

He never misses to grow eloquent.

‘Tis he may clamber to a lady’s chamber,

Or become a member of Parliament.

A noble spouter he’ll sure turn out,

or an out and outer to be let alone.

Don’t try to hinder him, or to bewilder him,

For he is a pilgrim from the Blarney stone.”
