Apple pie, with its signature blend of tart apples and warm cinnamon spice, truly is the unofficial national cuisine of the United States. Yet, apples have long been associated with American society.
It is commonly accepted that apple trees were initially grown in ancient Rome. Romans and Brits brought the trees from their empire to the area now known as Massachusetts. For instance, in 1629, one of the early governors of the Massachusetts colony, John Endicott, is credited for importing the first trees to North America. There, John Chapman, sometimes known as Johnny Appleseed, is said to have begun planting apple trees that would eventually spread across the country. Johnny Appleseed is famous for spreading apple orchards across the United States through his travels.
Perhaps someone, at some time in history, realised that apples could benefit from being baked with a little of cinnamon to enhance their flavour. Wow, thank goodness they finally did. Making this tea is like baking an apple pie in a teapot; it’s that amazing.
