Mindfulness, or focusing one’s mind on their present task, emotion, thought, or behavior at hand, is a neurological and cognitive skill that has been proven to assist in a person’s optimal performance in all areas of their lives. The combination of consciously being aware of one’s continuous breath during both mental and physical activities, has been shown to help with lowering anxiety, improving focus, mood, and also making better decisions. As most people hold their breath most of the time, Mindfulness Training involves practice in teaching oneself how to both breathe while utilizing senses and emotional intelligence to better perceive and respond to one’s internal and external environments. Mindfulness is nothing less than training your brain to breathe while interacting with both the environment as well as other people. To assist in such training, Dr. Kanner has developed a number of Present Objects to practice teaching your brain to breathe, focus, and improve each part of your life by being fully aware of yourself and your environment at the same time. As you practice daily with your Present Object, your brain will begin to adapt the same breathing pattern when you focus on the everyday parts of your life. Enjoy the journey!
